Inside Pleasant Hill Manor, a varied color scheme of hunter green, mauve, burgundy and taupe is bordered by crisp white trim. Armchairs in muted colors are an attractive, subtle complement to the textured walls strewn with gold-framed photos. A comfortably furnished common area with a big-screen TV is located next to the lobby.
Residents’ rooms range in size from moderate to large. Each has a sliding door that leads to the patio. Heavy gold partitions in the double occupancy rooms remain from the facility’s days as a SNF. Residents are encouraged to bring their own furnishings and many have; the result is homey. We observed residents participating in a sing-along as we passed the common area. The angled ceiling in the dining area combined with numerous windows creates an open and inviting space; French doors open onto the patio.
Pleasant Hill Manor boasts both a center and rear patio. The garden features safe walkways, tables and benches, raised planters and two magnificent poplar trees that cast shade widely over the area. The house cat scampered out of our way as we roamed the garden.
The combination of ceiling lights, skylights and plentiful windows creates a cheerful atmosphere. The staff was energetic and attentive during our visit. One staff member shared a triumphant story about a resident who had made tremendous progress under their care. After battling hardships with dementia and Parkinson’s for some time, the resident and staff were able to identify and implement a better treatment plan; the former resident was able to return home, and now lives with his family.
