Vallejo, California is a city to the northeast of San Francisco, located on San Pablo Bay. It has a population of 121,692 as of 2019, and 15.8% of its residents are aged 65 or older, slightly less than the national average of 16.5%. Vallejo’s average assisted living cost of $4,500 a month, according to the Genworth Cost of Care Survey 2020, runs $500 a month cheaper than the average cost in California of $5,000 a month, but $200 more than the national average of $4,300. The cost in nearby Oregon is $4,659 a month and in Arizona, $3,900 a month. Assisted living is considerably more expensive than in Utah at $3,400 and Nevada at $3,595.
Assisted living costs in Vallejo are in the middle of the pack in Northern California. Stockton at $3,500, Modesto at $4,000 and Madeira at $3,913 a month are all less expensive. The cost in Sacramento, however, is almost $900 more expensive, at $5,395. Prices rise in Napa and Santa Cruz, with monthly assisted living costs averaging $6,250 and $6,800 a month, respectively.
Older Californians who receive Social Security income may also be eligible for the state supplemental payment. Seniors residing in a participating assisted living facility could receive a cash payment to help with costs for nonmedical care. Those seniors or their families should check to see if that facility accepts the supplement.
