Among the larger cities of the New Orleans metro area, Slidell is home to 4,393 seniors over the age of 65, accounting for 15.9% of its total population. At $4,163 a month, the median cost of assisted living in Slidell is $524 above the statewide average and $137 below the national average. The city’s seniors spend about $165 and $450 more per month than the majority of seniors in Texas and Mississippi, respectively, which both have higher monthly costs than the Louisiana statewide median. Arkansas is the most affordable nearby state with an average monthly cost of $3,500.
Slidell has one of the highest assisted living costs in Louisiana. Costs elsewhere range from a high of $4,725 in Lake Charles to a low of $2,900 in Hammond. The average cost in Lafayette is $3,850, while seniors in Baton Rouge and Alexandria pay $3,618 and $3,356 per month, respectively.

Currently, Louisiana’s Medicaid program doesn’t pay for care or housing in an assisted living facility.
