Genworth’s Cost of Care Survey for 2021 puts the average monthly cost of assisted living in Norfolk at $4,690.
Across the U.S., the average monthly cost of assisted living care is $4,500, $190 lower than in Norfolk. Across Virginia specifically, the cost is $5,250, $560 higher than that of Norfolk.
Lynchburg seniors pay an average of $4,625 a month for assisted living, making it the only city in Virginia reporting a lower cost than Norfolk. Staunton is within $20 of Norfolk’s price at $4,708 a month, while state capital Richmond is roughly $210 more expensive than Norfolk at $4,901 a month. The state’s highest prices for assisted living are in Roanoke, where the average cost is $5,935, $1,235 more than in Norfolk. Prices are also well above Virginia averages in Harrisonburg, at $5,711, and in Charlottesville, at $5,700.
