The Department of Health Care Services in California oversees Medicaid distribution within the state, including a number of Medi-Cal Waivers. While most don’t apply to seniors in assisted living, the Assisted Living Waiver Program may provide some services to those who qualify. Individuals must meet Medicaid income requirements, be willing to receive care in an assisted living facility and need a nursing home level of care. While the ALWP provides reimbursement for some services, residents are still responsible for room and board.
