From February through April 15th, trained AARP volunteers help older adults prepare their income tax returns.Staff experts provide information and referrals to senior services, while a volunteer financial counselor advises older adults on money issues. The intergenerational program pairs up seniors and high school students to bridge generation gaps. Other programs include a weekly storytelling group for older adults to share life experiences and a diabetes workshop on healthy lifestyle changes. For stroke survivors, the Joseph B. Jr. and Mary Anne O’Neal Stroke Center offers speech and occupational therapies, water exercise, yoga, chair volleyball, Zumba Gold, support groups, movie days and field trips.
Nutrition Program(310) 835-0212 x 1487The Torrance-South Bay YMCA serves lunches at 11:30 a.m., Monday through Friday, to those in need. Guests can get hot and nutritious meals as well as friendly conversations. For seniors 60 years or older, a donation of $2.25 per meal is suggested but not required. As there may be a waitlist, call in advance for more information.
