Sitting on a five-acre expanse, St. Regis Retirement Center is a hilltop oasis in a bustling commercial area. Much of the seventies architectural design has been preserved in the facility’s hotel-like facade. Artificial light softly illuminates the contemporary interior of both the assisted living and secured Alzheimer’s units, which feature rich maroon and dark blue upholstered furniture. The wide hallways are neatly kept and equipped with adequate support systems.
Residents’ personal furnishings add a homey quality to their rooms that is otherwise lacking in the common areas. The memory boxes displayed outside the rooms in the Alzheimer’s unit are another personal touch. Pretty valances frame the windows in the main dining area, where cushioned chairs and an open design make the space especially inviting. A group of residents talked and laughed easily with one another during our mealtime visit. The smaller dining room is perfect for residents who prefer a more intimate setting. Residents of the Alzheimer’s unit gather for meals in a separate area. Both units feature spacious activity areas, which the two activity directors take full advantage of. Assisted living residents enjoy Bible study, prayer groups, reminiscence, trivia—even live musical performances! Complimentary manicures are offered at the on-site beauty shop. Activity mainstays in the Alzheimer’s unit include memory games, music, singing, arts and crafts, Bible study and fitness instruction.
Manicured greenery defines the outdoor courtyard, which also features paved walkways and a pool table housed in a sheltered corner—on sunny days, the area is delightful! Residents of the Alzheimer’s unit enjoy their own secured patio, where they often stroll in the cool shade of numerous tall trees.
