St. Paul’s Towers

Residents of St. Paul’s Towers enjoy amazing views of nearby Lake Merritt and dynamic downtown Oakland from the facility’s lovely rooftop garden. Upscale apartment buildings and long-term care facilities neighbor the towering building. A small group of residents greeted us in the lobby, where they had congregated around the crackling fireplace with tea and snacks. Asian elements offset the facility’s modern décor, a blend of dark woods and warm colors. The broad hallways are softly lit. Residents enjoy expressing their individuality by decorating their large apartments.The residents are a highly independent group who spend their days choosing from a plethora of activities, including bridge, knitting, tai chi and religious services. They also run a residents’ council. The facility accommodates a variety of pursuits in its many common areas, which include libraries, an art studio and a ceramics studio. Vaulted ceilings emphasize the elegance of the main dining room, which accesses an enchanting orchid garden. Assisted living and dementia residents enjoy a separate, intimate dining and activity area that reduces the stimuli that can upset dementia residents.St. Paul’s Towers accepts residents at the independent level only, but allows non-members to use the skilled nursing facility when rooms are available. The facility boasts an onsite clinic staffed by doctors and nurses; in addition, a dentist and a hearing aid specialist make regular visits to the facility.
