Rose Tree Place is as aesthetically appealing as its name implies. The lovely stone-and-brick building is seated on a verdant residential street. Neighboring buildings are far enough away that they don’t interrupt the expanse of green foliage. The long driveway is flanked by well-trimmed bushes and trees, while flowers surround several inviting patios. The inside of the facility mirrors the grandiose exterior: beautiful marble floors in the entry and lobby are redolent of an upscale hotel, and peach hues and tasteful furnishings further the upscale ambience. Everything was so attractive that we were surprised to learn that the entire interior was slated for renovation.
The new management team at Rose Tree Place runs a smooth operation. Residents were extremely well groomed, and seemed happy and animated. Many engaged in conversation with each other and staff members, who were warm and congenial. The apartments are fully carpeted and get lots of natural light. Rose Tree Place houses both independent and assisted living; the two groups intermingle in activities, common areas and meals. The menu offers healthful and appetizing choices like salads and fresh fruit, and snacks are available round the clock. There is a large activity room and a library stocked with books and comfy seating. A special machine for the visually impaired allows for extreme magnification of reading material.
Lighting throughout the facility is subdued—but even more so in the dementia unit. The unit is spacious with a calming décor appropriate for this population. Activities for residents with dementia have been specifically designed to meet their needs, whereas the activities for the general population are quite varied. There are at least four different offerings each day, including scheduled outings to nearby movie theaters, shopping spots and restaurants. Some form of daily physical exercise, such as tai chi, is offered as well. Residents may use the well-equipped therapy room with their doctor’s clearance. Other daily activities include religious groups, crafts, bingo and card games as well as ice cream socials. In the warmer months, residents enjoy a beautiful outdoor area with trees, flowers, seating and pathways. The weekly barbecue is another popular event.
