Manor Care Health Services is housed in two well-maintained older buildings; the assisted living facility and the Alzheimer’s are next door to one another. The yard was full of Halloween spirit when we visited, thanks to residents’ handmade decorations. Rocking chairs rest on the patio, under handy ceiling fans.
A receptionist welcomes visitors at the greeting station, which has new carpet and fresh paint. The furniture is worn, but is clean and well-maintained. The soothing color scheme, which combines dark shades and soft pastels, is punctuated by bright flower arrangements. The facility has a bright, airy atmosphere. A Halloween party was taking place on the day of our visit. Several animated residents and staff were in costume. The staff enjoyed entertaining the residents with music and games. Regular field trips include outings to a bingo hall, where residents are monitored by staff. A delicious aroma emanated from the kitchen as the chefs prepared dinner. Several large tables in the dining area were set with pretty floral arrangements. The common areas are spotless and a variety of board games are available. The spacious hallways are equipped with handrails. Residents are welcome to decorate and paint their rooms, which are small to moderately sized. Each has a bed, nightstand and dresser.
The outdoor area is attractively landscaped with bushes, trees and miniature rose gardens. We were delighted to watch residents on the lawn playing baseball with foam bats and balls. A tall fence encloses the area, beyond which lies a beautiful, fragrant cedar forest.
