As we approached Atria Fremont, we were enveloped by the mouthwatering aroma of freshly baked cookies. We soon learned that the staff bakes cookies for residents and visitors twice a day! A homey seating area with a piano is a popular spot for residents to visit with one another. Although the décor is somewhat dated, the muted color scheme creates a soothing ambiance. Residents’ moderately sized rooms all have windows. Fluorescent and soft artificial lighting prevail throughout the facility.
In the dining room, menus atop the linen-covered tabletops reminded us of a family-style restaurant. Fresh seafood entrées are served twice a week. The kitchen staff offers several options and accommodates special requests. A large activity area hosts the house bingo games. Residents have formed a large chorus group, an activity thoroughly enjoyed by all. The outdoor garden features lovely walkways and seating areas; during our visit, the patio was festively decorated with holiday lights and figurines.
We found the residents very engaging. One newcomer gave us the grand tour of her room. She mentioned her affinity for classical music and beamed with pride as we noted her extensive CD collection.
