Avalon North Country Club’s staff exemplifies Southern hospitality. The high quality of care is reflected in the residents’ positive attitudes. They are an active group with a busy schedule of exercise, drawing, painting, neighborhood strolls, ice cream socials, movie nights and other activities. The facility’s day care program, which includes three meals and a daily snack, allows non-residents to experience Avalon for themselves.
The covered entrance to the red brick building is set back from the street between two of its wings, which are bordered by shrubs. A 7-Eleven and a middle school neighbor the facility. Irving Mall is just a few miles away. A gilt-edged mirror hangs above a glass table in the foyer. To the left of the entrance lies one of the facility’s multiple common areas, furnished with brown leather couches, a TV and a piano. Bright oil paintings spice up the décor. Another common area features dark pink carpet, maroon couches and a complementary floral border on the walls. A third common room showcases an organ.
Golden fixtures illuminate the dining area, which is located near the entrance. Mahogany tables and chairs, as well as four leather recliners, provide residents with comfortable places to eat and socialize. The menu listed baked chicken, red beans and rice, and green beans followed by fruit smoothies on the day of our visit. Oil paintings of wildlife, plants and snowy cityscapes adorn the walls of the dining area and the facility’s broad hallways. Frosted glass fixtures brighten the home. Neutral beige carpet complements the variety of décor and personal taste found in residents’ sunny rooms. Each room boasts at least one closet and additional storage in the bathroom. A tall fence secures the paved outdoor courtyard, where residents are fond of walking. Oak trees and canopies shade the wrought iron patio furniture and barbecue.
