Overview
Care Types: Assisted Living
A beautifully appointed and welcoming facility, Aegis of South San Francisco offers very comfortable retirement living. The entrance lobby is striking, with high ceilings and lovely garden views; it is often used as a meeting place for residents, staff and visitors. A smiling concierge is always available. The gardens boast an abundance of thriving, beautiful flowers. The open area adjacent to the facility is evocative of a more rural locale: one is quite likely to spot deer or other wildlife while taking a stroll of the grounds. The rooms, which have recently been redecorated, all have nice views of the gardens or this open area. A covered garage is available for residents who choose to drive.
Special care has been taken to provide the necessary supports in an aesthetically pleasing way. For example, waist-high ledges function as part of the décor, but are sturdy enough to bear the weight of individuals who use it for support; thus more intrusive railings are not needed.
The construction and décor of the dementia unit reflect careful consideration: this section of the facility was built to ease residents’ anxiety, and is very soothing. Decorations, personal memory boxes, and items from popular culture help stimulate residents’ precious memories. The staff encourages residents to make positive choices such as retaining their humor and self-esteem—even in the frustration that often accompanies the challenges of coping with dementia.
Residents are encouraged to “enjoy the moment” in healthful ways. Therefore, specialized services such as massage and aromatherapy are offered in the “Bathtique,” a suite dedicated to such pursuits. Aegis also recognizes that many of its residents are committed to their four-legged friends, so pets are accepted.
