Welcome. It is a privilege to introduce you to The Hebrew Home at Riverdale where we believe in the endless possibilities of aging. The Hebrew Home affirms that lifetime dreams can come true at any age. We are a vibrant and active community providing a wide range of opportunities to stimulate the mind, body and spirit through a variety of social, intellectual and physical activities.
The world-renowned Hebrew Home does all of this in a beautiful, relaxing setting where we provide the very best medical, nursing, rehabilitative and nutritional care possible. Our staff is always ready to answer any questions and help address any issue. At The Hebrew Home, aging is all about living.
The Hebrew Home at Riverdale has been dedicated to community service since its founding in 1917, when a small synagogue in Harlem opened its doors as a shelter for poor, homeless, elderly people.
Over the subsequent 91 years, The Hebrew Home has become one of the nation's leading elder care centers and has continually renewed and expanded its commitment to provide the best possible care and the highest quality of life for older people.
Today, the Home, located on 19-acres along the Hudson River in the Riverdale section of the Bronx, serves more than 3,000 people in the Bronx, Manhattan and Westchester County.
The Hebrew Home now includes residential healthcare, rehabilitation and palliative care facilities , senior housing communities , The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Center for Elder Abuse Prevention , and ElderServe , the Home's community services division which offers a full spectrum of healthcare and supportive services to help maintain the independence of older persons who choose to remain in their own homes. This includes long term home health care, in-home personal care, medical and social adult day programs as well as overnight respite programs.
The mission of The Hebrew Home for the Aged at Riverdale is to provide older people with exceptional care in conformance with the religious, dietary and other laws, customs and traditions of the Jewish religion.
Our goal is to provide care in a warm, homelike environment and in a manner, which preserves and enhances independence and dignity. Such care should be provided on the basis of a continuum of care in which older people can live, learn and flourish.
The Living Well Journey is our approach to caring for our residents. This philosophy is based on patient-centered care and focuses on residents' individual choice, creativity and growth. The Living Well Journey aims to help make life at The Hebrew Home more independent, more empowered… and more enjoyable.
We focus on what we refer to as "little big things" like making mealtimes more flexible and creative, encouraging residents to participate in the many activities and therapeutic programs we offer, and offering alternative and holistic-based treatments, like aromatherapy and Reikki massage.
We strive to help our residents continue the habits, hobbies and interests that they enjoyed while they were living in the community, because we believe that good health is not limited to the body, but includes the mind and spirit as well. Wellness is a journey, and we would like to join and assist you
in your trip.
