Care: AgeSong at Bayside Park's independent living,
assisted living and forgetfulness care programs are rooted in a holistic
approach that supports lifestyles based on differing needs and wants. Our
residents are encouraged to remain involved in the larger community and remain
connected with family and friends. Residents may benefit from care levels as
simple as gentle prompting on daily tasks to complex health care monitoring.
AgeSong at Bayside Park is prepared to provide a seamless transition among all
levels of care.
In addition to offering physical care, a team comprised of AgeSong staff, pre-
and post-doctoral psychology interns, and local and international volunteers,
will focus on the emotional and spiritual well-being of residents through
personal contact, group activities and outings. This holistic approach is
invaluable in furnishing residents with nurturing that goes above and beyond the
standard aspects of caregiving. back to top
Specialized Programs: Integral to AgeSong at Bayside Park's comprehensive
levels of care are a carefully designed set of Specialized Programs to better
address individual needs:
Kneipp Wellness: AgeSong's Kneipp-inspired wellness program encourages a
unique approach to integrating the strengths of natural healing sources with our
current service plans. The program is based on the five pillars of wellness:
water, plants, nutrition, exercise, and balance. Our Kneipp therapy pool, arm
and foot baths, strength training and exercise center, meditation room, and
garden areas reflect the importance of each pillar. Benefits over time include:
increased mobility and balance; increased awareness and participation: improved
appetite and digestion; reduced challenges with incontinence; reduced use of
psychotropic medications; and reduced severity of chronic pain.
Expressive Arts: All humans are innately creative,
and expressing that creativity is necessary for human happiness and growth at
every stage of life. AgeSong at Bayside Park's Expressive Arts Program combines
creative expressions such as painting, arts and crafts, dance, music, and
sculpture with psychotherapy and life coaching. The Expressive Arts Program
views these activities as a means of creative self-expression.
Community Enrichment: Staying connected to the
larger community and its many cultural and social resources is the goal of our
Community Enrichment Program. There are opportunities for trips to local
lectures, botanical gardens, neighborhood restaurants, and cinemas as well as
onsite programs and activities. Specific activities include physical exercise;
spa and therapy pool programs; aromatherapy; daily news discussions; lectures;
body massage; meditation; yoga; pet therapy; reminiscence and memory groups;
musical performances; poetry and journal writing; flower arrangement; and
emotional and spiritual support groups.
Spiritual Care: For many of us, the belief in a
higher power is as crucial as the importance of maintaining a healthy body. For
those individuals, the spiritual dimension of life is central to the meaning and
joy of daily existence. Our interfaith Spiritual Care Program provides support
to residents, family members, friends, and staff. Our meditation room and other
spaces are available for individual and group gatherings.
Hospice: Our Hospice Care Program allows us to draw
on MediCare certified hospice providers to support residents who have been
diagnosed with a terminal illness. We will take special care in supporting
residents and families as they journey through the dying process. This program
is inspired by the practices of Zen Hospice and includes the resident's faith
tradition, grief and loss support and coordination of needs through the hospice
agency of the resident's choice.
Respite: We will provide respite and transitional
stay programs that allow residents recuperating from an injury or illness to
have the support they need in a residential environment. back to top
Settings: Our setting reflects our desire to honor
elders and eldership in our communities. It begins with thoughtful building
designs that are enlivened by sun-filled interiors, high ceilings, access to
outdoor spaces, use of high-quality natural materials and products, and
amenities that are designed for elders. The quality and care we put into our
communities result in non-institutional settings that truly have the feel of a
residence.
Our strong community ties link our inner environment with the outer activities
of our neighborhood. AgeSong at Bayside Park is located minutes away from Park
Avenue's historic city offices, neighboring cafes, shops, art studios and large
shopping areas such as Bay Street Mall, Emeryville Public Market and Powell
Street Plaza. We are also minutes away from UC Berkeley, Grand Lake Theatre and
other Bay Area cultural and social venues.
Bayside Park's scheduled transportation and the Emery-Go-Round city
transportation system make it convenient to get to places of interest, medical
appointments or to visit friends and family.
People: At AgeSong we strongly believe that people are at the heart of
our therapeutic environments. The love and commitment we have for our work is
reflected in a hands-on approach that aims to set a new standard for how we care
for elders. An innovative management philosophy includes the creation of unique
staff positions and training that you won't find anywhere else.
Our employees have a remarkable commitment to their work. When visiting one of
our communities you can instantly sense the pleasure they take from caregiving.
Their overall satisfaction bolsters another key facet of AgeSong: low staff
turnover, which leads to consistent care and services for residents. Many of the
same smiling faces that started AgeSong years ago continue their work with us,
untiring in their commitment.
The meaningful partnerships we've built over the years have incorporated even
more high-quality individuals into the AgeSong team. Our internship program
through the non-profit
Pacific Institute
provides us with pre and post doctoral level psychology interns, masters level
marriage and family therapist interns and local and international volunteers who
are dedicated to the emotional, social, and spiritual aspects of aging.
